The Youth Advisory Committee, comprised of girls and gender-expansive youth of color between the ages of 14 and 22, guides the work of the Schools for Girls of Color Learning Network by providing recommendations to transform schools into supportive learning environments based on their life experiences. Membership on the Committee offers leadership skills to young people, the opportunity to help shape the work of the Learning Network, a community of peers committed to race and gender equity, and a means of informing school community workers about improving school environments based on their perspective and experiences.

In December 2020, the Youth Advisory Committee hosted a virtual event that explored the unique challenges created by the presence of SROs in schools, concerns about SRO misconduct in schools, and options for improving relationships between girls of color and SROs. More than 185 educators, policymakers, nonprofit leaders, and other members of the Learning Network attended and participated in a dynamic conversation.
