The Center is proud to have contributed to a co-authored report on criminalized survivors, “From the Cradle to the Grave: The Lifelong Criminalization of Survivors of Gender-Based Violence.” In April 2025, this collaborative report was submitted to the United Nations to inform the upcoming Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United States by the UN Human Rights Council in November 2025. By participating in this UPR process, our report will help amplify the criminalization of American survivors on the global stage.
The report was produced by a coalition of academic and advocacy organizations: University of North Carolina School of Law’s Criminalized Survivor, Detention, and Justice Clinic; University of Miami School of Law’s Human Rights Clinic, Cornell Center on the Death Penalty Worldwide; University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law’s Gender, Prison, and Trauma Clinic; and the Battered Women’s Justice Project.
