In March 2025, the Center on Gender Justice and Opportunity at Georgetown Law published a bench card on adultification bias against Black girls and gender-expansive youth. Developed in partnership with the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ), the adultification bias bench card outlines the disproportionate harsh treatment experienced by Black girls in the juvenile justice system and how judges can recognize this bias to achieve greater equity in judicial outcomes.
Bench cards provide judges with digestible information and context on particular issues that they can refer to while on the bench to inform their decisions. With this adultification bias bench card, we hope that more judges recognize adultification bias to help ensure that Black girls are treated fairly in the justice system.

The Center also offers trainings on adultification bias for judges, prosecutors, and healthcare professionals. If you’re interested in one of our trainings, we want to hear from you:
